 Greyhound Friends for Life is an all-volunteer non-profit organization that provides greyhound and other sighthound rescue and adoption services, primarily in the northern and central regions of California. Greyhound Friends for Life is committed to responding promptly to all communications from adopters, potential adopters, and other members of the public. While finding qualified homes for as many greyhounds as possible is our goal, we will take the time to provide the best possible matches between our dogs and our potential adopters.

 Galgo Podenco Support

Galgo Podenco Support (GPS), a volunteer non-profit entity, was established to support the Spanish licensed charity groups that rescue, rehabilitate and rehome abandoned and abused galgos and podencos. Inspired by the tireless efforts of those on the front lines, GPS offers assistance in the way of financial support, practical help, and facilitation of adoptions to the US. 

Are there obstacles to running an organization that focuses on the needs of dogs in a foreign country? Absolutely. In addition to obvious challenges such as language and distance barriers, one often hears "what about the dogs here in the US? There is plenty of need here". GPS believes that there are no borders defining dogs in need. What the Spanish hounds endure is a global condition that affects all of us, one way or another. The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated. — Mahatma Gandhi

GPS would like to express our great appreciation to the US greyhound groups who have opened their hearts and homes to the Spanish hounds. THE AMERICAN LURCHER PROJECT

(formerly Ohio Lurcher Project)

The American Lurcher Project Team works on behalf of the lurchers (greyhound mixed breeds) to get them to responsible adoption groups. We believe these wonderful dogs deserve a second chance to live a life in a real home. Lurchers have a wonderful strong spirit and most of the lurchers adjust quickly and are very appreciative of their new home and family. We are not an adoption group, but we rescue and transport the dogs to groups throughout the United States and Canada. We are forever indebted to the adoption groups who have taken these wonderful dogs and given them a second chance.  More information at www.americanlurcherproject.org

GREYHOUND PETS OF AMERICA/LAandMS

GPA/LAandMS is located in Covington, Louisiana, and is a chapter of Greyhound Pets of America.  The purpose of Greyhound Pets of America(GPA) is to find responsible loving homes for Greyhounds, to acquaint the public with the desirability of Greyhounds as pets, and to inform them of the availability of Greyhounds for adoption.

Greyhound Pets of America was founded in 1987 to find homes for racing greyhounds when their racing careers were finished. Through the support of our volunteers and countless hours that they have given, GPA and its chapters, including this one, have adopted over 80,000 greyhounds to homes throughout the country.

With recent flooding in Louisiana and throughout the area, many homes have been flooded, and many foster dogs have had to be moved.  The most pressing need is for dog food, and if you feel able to donate directly, donations can be sent to GPA/LAandMS at 25 Pipes Loop, Covington, LA  70435-9509.

Meanwhile, any purchase you make this month in the H4H shop will also bring help where it is needed.

Charity of the Month: August

SHOPPING HERE HELPS HOUNDS! This month ALL PROCEEDS  from the Handmade4Hounds Shop on Etsy, minus fees, will be donated to

AZ GREYHOUNDS, INC.

AZGreyhounds, located in Sierra Vista, AZ, is dedicated to the rescue and adoption of these beautiful animals and finding forever homes for each one. The program also provides educational programs to local schools and groups about retired Greyhounds, their history, Greyhound racing and our adoption program.

AZGreyhounds, Inc. is a non-profit corporation under the laws of the State of Arizona and a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization under the rules of the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

We send condolences to the organization on the recent loss of their founder, Dave Breen.  He was a friend to all, especially greyhounds, and will be sorely missed.

Meanwhile, AZGreyhounds is helping rehome the dogs displaced by the closing of the Tucson track.  When that monumental task is done, they plan to help resettle dogs from the Tijuana track back in the US.  None of this can be done without your support.
