Charity of the Month: December

SHOPPING HERE HELPS HOUNDS! This month ALL PROCEEDS  from the Handmade4Hounds Shop on Etsy, minus fees, will be donated to

Golden State Greyhound Adoption began in September of 2002. They have grown since then by expanding outreach and placement services into many more communities, currently serving the greater San Francisco Bay Area, South to Carmel, Sacramento, the Valley areas and beyond.

GSGA exists to rehome as many of the greyhounds that would otherwise perish as possible. We could not accomplish this rewarding work without our volunteers who foster and spend their weekends at local venues with their greyhounds educating the public about these wonderful companions.

Charity of the Month: October

SHOPPING HERE HELPS HOUNDS! This month ALL PROCEEDS will be donated to ICGA - Rescue - http://www.IGRescue.com

Italian Greyhound Club of America - Rescue is a re-homing service provided for Italian Greyhounds that have been abandoned at animal shelters, taken from abusive homes or surrendered to Rescue due to the death or divorce of the former owner. IGCA Rescue volunteers foster these dogs in their homes, where their health and temperament are evaluated. All dogs are taken for a veterinary check-up: when necessary, vaccinations are updated, the animal is neutered/spayed and its teeth are cleaned. Each Italian Greyhound is evaluated so that it can be placed in a home suitable to both the dog and the new owner.

Donations are used to provide medical care for rescue dogs.

Charity of the Month: September

SHOPPING HERE HELPS HOUNDS! This month ALL PROCEEDS will be donated to GPA Louisville - www.gpalouisville.org.

Greyhound Pets of America-Louisville
is a very small adoption group and we do not have a kennel or facility where we can keep greyhounds coming off the track.  We rely on foster homes as well as bringing in greyhounds when we have applications and they are approved for adoption.  Most of our greyhounds come from a kennel/track (Tri State) in Charleston, WV and there are times when we bring in some from Florida or Kansas.  We recently brought in 7 greyhounds from a kennel in Florida that was closing.

Through a unique partnership with the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), Greyhound Pets of America/Louisville has entered into a special partnership to promote responsibility and provide opportunities for career development of at-risk youth within Morehead Youth Development Center (MYDC).  This program provides transitional care and basic obedience training for newly retired racing Greyhounds, en route to their new “Forever Homes”.  This is a 12 week program and the teenage girls come from troubled homes where they do not get the love they so desire, and they most definitely get unconditional love from the retired racing greyhounds.  This is a win-win for not only the girls, but also GPA-Louisville because with the girls fostering, our group’s fosters are available to foster additional greyhounds.

We recently set a record of adopting 16 retired racing greyhounds in one month!  That averages out to approximately 4 greyhounds per week!! For more information, please visit www.gpalouisville.org

To support this mission, SA Greys identifies caring and responsible homes; rescues sick, injured, and abandoned greyhounds; seeks to return lost greyhounds to their owners; teaches the principles of kindness and humane dog care to children and adults; promotes birth control by spaying or neutering all intake animals; provides pre-adoption health services; provides residential foster care to assist the greyhounds in becoming acclimated to a home environment.  Find out more at www.sagreyhoundadoption.org

Greyhound Pets of America-Central Texas

(GPA-CT)

GPA-CT is a chapter of Greyhound Pets of America, a national 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to find responsible loving homes for greyhounds, to acquaint the public with the desirability of greyhounds as pets and to inform them of the availability of greyhounds for adoption.
GPA-CT places all dogs in foster homes upon coming into our group. This helps us get to know the dog and their personality before they go to their home. We pride ourselves in helping you pick the perfect dog. While the dogs are at their foster home, they are taken to the veterinarian to get spayed or neutered, all their shots, have their teeth cleaned, and heartworm tested. During this time, they are also evaluated for injuries or health problems.
GPA-CT hosts Meet & Greets at different pet stores and other locations to show off our greyhounds and to let people know what good pets they make. If you are looking for a good, healthy, wonderful dog as a pet, please consider adopting a greyhound.

GREYHOUND HOPE REHABILITATION AND ADOPTION

Greyhound Hope Rehabilitation and Adoption, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) volunteer organization consisting of like-minded individuals who have a strong love and commitment for the welfare of the racing and retired greyhound.

Greyhound Hope Rehabilitation and Adoption's mission is to offer assistance to greyhounds with a career ending broken leg.

We plan to fulfill our mission in three main ways:

1. By working closely and having a great rapport with greyhound adoption groups and the greyhound racing industry...especially in Florida;

2. By offering assistance to other 501 (c)(3) greyhound adoption groups for veterinary fees needed to repair the broken leg; or

3. By Greyhound Hope Rehabilitation and Adoption taking the greyhound for rehabilitation and adoption.

Charity of the Month: March

SHOPPING HERE HELPS HOUNDS! This month ALL PROCEEDS, minus fees, will be donated to

SAGE (Save A Galgo Español)

SAGE is a recently started organization founded to raise awareness and make a difference in the lives of the closest relative of the greyhound, its cousin the galgo Español. They are located between Harrisburg and Gettysburg in South Central Pennsylvania.

Their main goal is to educate the American people about the situation of the Spanish galgo by giving seminars and through use of the internet. While open to work with other rescues in Spain, their closest connection at this moment is with Asociación BaasGalgo, working in areas known for their cruelty to galgos: Castilla la Mancha and Andalucia.   They also support shelters though fundraising.

While they do not believe that bringing galgos to the US is the answer to the problem in Spain, they try to make an annual trip to one or more shelters in Spain and bring back a few dogs that need homes. They never rule out any dog, including dogs that have specific medical needs, if that can be provided for them here in the US. Typically the dogs chosen for travel to the US are those that have been in the shelter for a longer period of time or stand the least chance of being adopted.

NEVADA GREYHOUNDS UNLIMITED

Nevada Greyhounds Unlimited is a local non-profit organization dedicated to finding loving permanent homes for ex-racing greyhounds. We do not have our own kennel, but work with several other rescue groups that bring the greyhounds off the track and prepare them for adoption. We talk to prospective adopters, take in applications, conduct home visits, and then process applications through the adoption agencies that we work with. Most of the greyhounds we place are from the Caliente racetrack in Tijuana, Mexico or from Phoenix, Arizona.
We sponsor many events throughout the year that serve both to educate the public and to help us meet people who are interested in adopting greyhounds. We have many wonderful volunteers that help us with everything from writing our newsletter to helping us with all our Meet N Greets and social functions. Many of our greyhounds are trained as Pet Therapy dogs and we even have a couple of them that are certified as Service Dogs.
