GREYHOUND ADOPTION LEAGUE OF TEXAS (GALT)

 

Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, Inc. (GALT) is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit corporation operating in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, throughout Texas and the United States since May, 2001. As of June, 2013, GALT has assisted more than 2250 greyhounds in finding their forever homes. GALT depends solely on donations for its operating budget of more than $350,000 per year for needs of the greyhounds in its possession. GALT takes a neutral stand on greyhound racing.

GPA DAYTONA BEACH

 

 

Greyhound Pets of America/Daytona Beach (GPA/Daytona Beach) is a chapter of a national 501c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to finding responsible, loving homes for retired racing greyhounds. GPA/Daytona Beach maintains a kennel of 110-120 dogs with a waiting list of at least 100 dogs waiting to come in to our facility. Greyhound pets are affordable to own, low maintenance, mellow in temperament, housebroken and easy to train. They are also friendly with other pets, eager to please and intelligent. The sponsors of GPA/Daytona Beach volunteer at various locations around the Daytona Beach area to raise awareness, introduce prospective families to their new pets and provide adoption as an option.

   SECOND CHANCE GREYHOUNDS

Second Chance Greyhounds is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is working to form partnerships with correctional facilities throughout Georgia and Florida who will foster and train former racing Greyhounds to better prepare them for life as a treasured pet. In return for the good manners that they learn, the dogs provide an outlet for the inmates to practice patience, learn responsibility and allow these men and women the opportunity to experience unconditional love for the first time in many years. It’s a very special partnership that benefits both humans and Greyhounds.

 STAR CITY GREYHOUND ADOPTIONS, INC.

Star City Greyhound Adoptions, Inc. in Roanoke, VA, is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to the retired racing greyhound. 

Our mission is to educate the public about these wonderful dogs and find them loving, quality, forever homes.  Our interest in the adoption doesn’t stop when we place a dog.  We offer 24 hour greyhound support, and try to work with the adopter and dog to solve any problems that may arise.  If at any time the dog is no longer wanted or we feel the home is not beneficial to either parties the dog always has a home here with us.

Charity of the Month: July

SHOPPING HERE HELPS HOUNDS!  This month, all proceeds from the Handmade4Hounds Shop on Etsy will be donated to Maine Greyhound Placement Service

Maine Greyhound Placement Service is a humane, non-profit organization dedicated to finding loving, responsible homes for retired racing Greyhounds that can no longer compete on the racetrack. MGPS is operated by volunteers and depends on fundraising for its operating expenses.

MGPS currently operates an adoption center located in Augusta, Maine that places retired Greyhounds in New England and beyond. MGPS also maintains an informational newsletter, Greyhound pet supply store to support the kennel and operates a Spay Neuter Clinic at its Augusta location. 

 

We are celebrating our 20th Anniversary this year. Thank you for helping the hounds!

Charity of the Month: June

SHOPPING HERE HELPS HOUNDS! This month ALL PROCEEDS, minus fees, will be donated to

SAGE (Save A Galgo Español) http://www.sagehounds.com

SAGE is a recently started organization founded to raise awareness and make a difference in the lives of the closest relative of the greyhound, its cousin the galgo Español. They are located between Harrisburg and Gettysburg in South Central Pennsylvania.

Their main goal is to educate the American people about the situation of the Spanish galgo by giving seminars and through use of the internet. While open to work with other rescues in Spain, their closest connection at this moment is with Asociación BaasGalgo, working in areas known for their cruelty to galgos: Castilla la Mancha and Andalucia.
They also support shelters though fundraising.

While they do not believe that bringing galgos to the US is the answer to the problem in Spain, they try to make an annual trip to one or more shelters in Spain and bring back a few dogs that need homes. They never rule out any dog, including dogs that have specific medical needs, if that can be provided for them here in the US. Typically the dogs chosen for travel to the US are those that have been in the shelter for a longer period of time or stand the least chance of being adopted.

MotorCity Greyhound Rescue (MCGR) was conceived by a group of individuals connected by a deep love of the greyhound and an opposition to greyhound racing.  Our interest and experience in greyhound rescue and adoption inspired and drove us to launch this endeavor.  MCGR is comprised of many dedicated volunteers and supporters who share our passion and for whom we are so grateful.

 

MotorCity Greyhound Rescue is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  We strive to raise funds which will provide for the necessary vetting for the greyhounds that we rescue.  We must count on the generosity of individuals and community organizations who realize how precious these lives are and will help us in our mission.

Midwest Greyhound Adoption

Midwest Greyhound Adoption is based out of suburban Chicago, Illinois U.S.A.  We are an Illinois and Federal Not-for-profit organization, incorporated since 1991.  We have placed well over 2000 retired greyhounds.  A portion of the greyhounds we take in, have broken legs or require some type of corrective surgery.  These medical needs are taken care of before they are placed for adoption. We are an all volunteer adoption group.

MGA, in cooperation with the Illinois Department of Corrections launched the L.A.R.K Program at Robinson Correctional Center in October 2012.  This program seeks to benefit retired racing Greyhounds who are waiting to go to their 'furever' home by pairing them with offenders who have demonstrated a willingness and dedication to true change. Dogs available for adoption will be placed at RCC for a period of roughly 90 days to prepare them to go into an adoptive home where they will be a loving addition to a family.  Not only does this benefit the dog but offenders learn responsibility. accountability and skills that will assist them in returning to their communities successfully. MGA is a 501C3 organization that is funding the entire L.A.R.K project through fund raising and donations.

Greyhound Rescue and Rehabilitation

Greyhound Rescue & Rehabilitation (GRR) is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit adoption/placement organization founded in May 2000. Every day, in all parts of the country, racing greyhounds are being retired due to injury, illness or just for being too slow, often by a split second. GRR helps as often as we can, and we’re thrilled that over 1100 greyhounds have become part of the GRR family. Our organization is comprised of volunteers, dedicated to raising public awareness about the ex-racing Greyhound; their gentle & loving nature, wonderful disposition and suitability as pets and companions. Our geographic focus is Westchester, Putnam, Duchess, Rockland, Orange and Ulster Counties, NY and Fairfield County and Litchfield County, CT. With the help of foster families, we acclimate the dogs to a home environment and prepare them for adoption. We find suitable and loving homes where the Greyhounds will be members of the family, and provide our adopting families with support and assistance as needed.

 SCOOBY NORTH AMERICA

Scooby North America is a 501 (c)3 non-profit that has been founded to form a conduit between the Protectora de Animales SCOOBY (also known as Scooby) Animal Sanctuary in Spain and the people of the United States. Our goals are to promote the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of the Spanish Galgo and other mixed breeds through travel to Scooby. To provide a source of information and assistance to individuals wishing to travel to Scooby or adopt a Galgo. To coordinate rescue missions to Scooby with the governing body of Scooby. To work closely with Scooby to re-home Galgos and other mixed breed dogs in the United States by placing them with adoption groups until suitable permanent loving homes can be found. To establish a relationship between Scooby and animal lovers in North America and around the world. To assist with healthcare to the rescued Galgos and mixed breeds that returned to the United States (including, but not limited to, emergency care and routine medical care; spays and neuters are typically performed at Scooby prior to adoption.) To promote awareness of the plight of the Spanish Galgo amongst the public at large through international educational campaigns.  To provide assistance to Scooby to maintain and update the shelter. To conduct fundraisers and events designed to provide funding for the abovementioned functions.
