Charity of the Month: June

The Handmade4Hounds Shop on Etsy helps a different adoption group each month. All the items in the shop are donated by various Etsy artists and crafters. This month all proceeds, minus fees, will be donated to GREAT - Greyhound Rescue and Adoptions of Tampa Bay.http://www.great-greyhound.org/

GREAT, Inc. is a non-profit greyhound rescue and adoption organization located in central Florida. We find homes for greyhounds that can no longer compete in racing. GREAT has placed over a thousand greyhounds since 1990. Although we are not affiliated with the racing industry, we do receive our dogs from the trainers and owners who want to place their retired racers in private homes. We also take in stray greyhounds that have been surrendered to animal shelters. The greyhounds we receive are evaluated through our foster care program. Foster care provides a temporary home for the greyhound during its transition from track to home. The success of our organization depends solely on the efforts of volunteers, our network of foster parents, and donations from the community. Our main objectives are to educate people as to what wonderful pets greyhounds can be, to place greyhounds in adoptive homes, and achieve greater public awareness about the over-breeding of racing greyhounds and the euthanasia that can result due to this practice.

Handmade4Hounds Shop on Etsy helps hounds find their forever homes.  This month all proceeds, minus fees, will be donated to Greyhound Pets of America Senior Sactuary of Florida. 

Greyhound Pets of America Senior Sanctuary of Florida(a 501C3 charity) is a group of volunteers who are dedicated to placing senior greyhounds over the age of seven either in permanent foster homes or hopefully with new adoptive families. We are also dedicated to educating the public of the importance and true meaning of lifelong commitment when adopting.



Senior greyhounds are friendly, intelligent, affectionate dogs that thrive on attention. When their racing careers are over, they make marvelous companions. Unfortunately, there are many senior greyhounds retired from breeding, abandoned in shelters, or thoughtlessly returned by their adopters to the adoption groups they originated from. It is unfair and extremely sad that, at an elderly age when they should be relaxing and enjoying the golden years of their lives, they are being bounced around and left to be forgotten. This is why the Senior Sanctuary was formed.

RUTH and ROXY




 

This month all proceeds, minus fees, will be donated to GREYHOUND SUPPORT TRANSPORT

Greyhound Support Transport and Adoption hauls approx. 30-35 dogs every 6 to 8 weeks at the cost of nearly $5,000 per haul. Donations are needed to fund the hauling of these athletes to non-racing states and Canada. GST has created The Griffin Fund, to help offset costs of Broken Leg Greyhounds that are injured on the Tracks (such as ROXY above).  Project Home is our end goal: funding and creating a working Kennel to hold, rehabilitate and care for our dogs waiting for Adoption.

GRIN's Mission: founded to establish a relationship between the galgo shelters in Spain and animal lovers around the world. Our love of greyhounds and concern for their plight drew us to their cousins - the Galgos. Galgos are used for hunting in Spain, and are normally abandoned or killed at the end of hunting season. Working closely with Spanish galgo shelters, G.R.I.N. raises awareness of the galgo's plight through international educational campaigns and fundraising. Michigan REGAP (Retired Greyhounds as Pets), founded in 1989, is dedicated to educating the public about the plight of racing Greyhounds, their suitability as companion animals, and finding permanent homes for those lucky enough to enter the rescue community. Over 1,400 dogs rescued so far, your support will help us continue. We openly and adamantly oppose Greyhound racing.

Charity of the Month: October

This month, all proceeds, minus Etsy/PayPal fees, will be donated to:

Italian Greyhound Club of America of Texas and Oklahoma.

IGCA Rescue is a club sponsored re-homing service provided for Italian Greyhounds that have been abandoned at animal shelters, taken from abusive homes or surrendered to Rescue due to the death or divorce of the former owner. IGCA Rescue volunteers foster these dogs in their homes, where their health and temperament are evaluated so that he/she can be placed in a home suitable to both the dog and the new guardian.
