Charity of the Month: November

This month all proceeds, minus fees, will be donated to: Halfway Home Greyhound Adoption

About the charity:
"HWH is a unique adoption team formed in the spring of 2002 to help dogs that do not have access to greyhound track adoption programs in finding their adoptive homes. We are a small group of dedicated volunteers motivated by our love of the breed and respect for the farms' commitment to the dogs.

In the eight years since our inception we have built relationships with breeders, owners and trainers. Due to their positive support, greyhounds are being held by the farms until their turn to race into a loving home. Since our inception, we have worked with different greyhound adoption groups to send many Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, and Kansas greyhounds through out the United States and Canada.

We have been asked to step up and assist more and more farms in these tough economic times. Farmers are retiring and being foreclosed on and the number of greyhounds being given to us for placement has been increasing. The veterinary bills and transport costs is over $50,000 per year. So far in 2010 we have moved 494 dogs more than halfway home"

Charity of the Month: August

In August, all proceeds, minus fees, were split between:

GREYHOUND ADOPTION LEAGUE OF TEXAS (GALT)

GREYHOUNDS UNLIMITED (GU)

On 8th July 2010, 28 greyhounds were found living outdoors in crates stacked on top of each other with no food or water in South Ft. Worth. The dogs were in very poor condition, covered with ticks, bone thin & with pressure sores all over their bodies. GALT & GU worked together, dividing the greyhounds between the 2 groups. Funds are desperately needed to help with the medical care of these hounds. Further information about the dogs can be found on both of the groups' websites.

Charity of the Month: June

Our charity this month is Greyhound Pets of America - Rocky Mountains - all profits through June in our Etsy store will go to them!
Although GPA-RM is in the process of incorporating and changing their name to Run for Adoption, Greyhound Rescue of Montana, their mission remains the same: to find loving forever homes for retired racers. Find out more at www.gparockymountain.org
They are in the process of re-doing their website, but I found some great articles, including this one about building a doggie first-aid kit.

Charity of the Month: May

We raised $228.00 in April for Greyhound Adoption of Ohio! So far our sales for 2010 have been well into the $200 range. The goal is set for us to make enough sales to break into the $300's for this month's group, Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue!

"Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue is committed to rescuing and rehoming stray, abandoned and ex-racing greyhounds and lurchers. Based in Yorkshire, UK, Tia is an independent, not-for-profit organisation and does not receive money from the racing industry. It operates a 'no kill' policy, believing that no animal should be put to sleep because a home cannot be found immediately or because veterinary treatment may be too expensive."

Charity of the Month: April

We raised $233.99 for St Louis REGAP in March. Hooray!

This month's group is Greyhound Adoption of Ohio (GAO)

Greyhound Adoption of Ohio is the largest and oldest greyhound adoption organization in the state of Ohio. At the time of our inception, in 1993, greyhounds were rarely seen in Ohio. Today, you'll see greyhounds nearly everywhere you go. Greyhounds make WONDERFUL pets!

And look what we found at the bottom of their website, a top 10 list we can stand behind! We LOVE It!

Top 10 Reasons to Adopt a Greyhound

  1. They truly know the meaning of retirement.
  2. People will stare at your dog instead of you.
  3. They can curl up into the size of a ball if they need to.
  4. They can expand to the size of a whole bed if they want to.
  5. They don't bark, keeping your neighborhood safe for burglars.
  6. You can play their ribs like an air guitar.
  7. They are the only dogs that know how to really smile.
  8. You can dress them up as reindeer for Christmas.
  9. They are never confused with poodles.
  10. A greyhound in flight is the most amazing sight you'll ever hope to see in your own backyard.

Charity of the Month: March

We raised $274.24 for Retired Greyhound Athletes in February!

Our charity for March is St. Louis Retired Greyhounds As Pets (REGAP)

REGAP is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to finding responsible homes for Greyhounds who are no longer used or needed by the racing industry. Another goal is to inform the public that these retired racers make excellent loving and devoted pets. We intend to dispel the myth that retired racers are highstrung dogs. The Greyhound is one of the best athletes in the animal kingdom! Will you help with his life in retirement?

Charity of the Month: February

We raised a whopping $259.96 for our January group: GPA-AZ! Thank you everyone!

This month's group is Retired Greyhound Athletes (RGA)

Retired Greyhound Athletes (RGA) is an all volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose primary mission is the placement of retired racing greyhounds in qualified homes. We provide ongoing support to ensure successful dog/owner relationships in addition to public education about the needs of this unique breed. Our mission is grounded in the promotion of the welfare of retired racing greyhounds. We receive income through adoption fees, donations and fundraisers. All expenses are related to the care and placement of retired racing greyhounds.

RGA is located in NE Wisconsin. The last round of greyhound retirees left Dairyland Track in Kenosha, WI on January 2nd and were welcomed into new foster homes. On January 16th we partnered with GPA to bring in our first round of greyhounds from Florida. We want the public to know that just because there are no longer any racing tracks in Wisconsin does not mean that there are no more greyhounds needing homes. The need is as great as ever and we will continue to work to find homes for this amazing breed. For more information on RGA please visit our website at www.retiredgreyhoundathletes.org.

Charity of the Month: January

This month, all profits from our Etsy store go to...
Greyhound Pets of America - Arizona Chapter
www.gpa-az.com

"GPA-AZ is an all volunteer, tax exempt, 501 (c) 3, non-profit organization. All donations go directly to the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of greyhounds.

The Phoenix track ran it's last live race on Dec. 19, 2009. Approximately 160 greyhounds are in need of homes. The operation of finding forever homes is lead by Arizona Adopt A Greyhound who works in conjunction with the track. At least a dozen rescue groups stepped up to the plate to find these greyhounds a forever home. At this time dogs are still being moved from kennels to other groups by truck, trailer, car and airplane heading to California, Washington, Oregon and New Mexico.

One such group is Greyhound Pets of America-Arizona whose efforts have been key in this process. GPA-AZ and Arizona Adopt A Greyhound continue to work non-stop on this. The economy has also played a role in that people are more reluctant to adopt and are sometimes returning the dogs they previously adopted."
